Kai Blakley is an American documentary photographer based in the Great Lakes region. His work moves between private life, commissioned assignments, and passing encounters, bringing domestic moments, cultural events, and the surrounding landscape into a single evolving archive.
Working primarily in high-contrast black and white, Blakley uses direct flash and close observational framing to photograph people and places across personal, public, and professional settings.
Blakley holds an MFA in Documentary Media from Northwestern University and has more than a decade of professional experience behind the camera.
His photographs form an ongoing record of contemporary life in and around the Great Lakes region.
