Miseh Distilling

After six years in the Army, Mike Sehzue worked five years in project management for ExxonMobil followed by three years in management consulting with Deloitte. He currently supports EPMA Inc while building Miseh Distilling. Mike is working to expand rum sales from Liberia to the U.S. and EU.

Miseh Distilling produces natural, Agricole rum in Liberia, West Africa made from freshly pressed sugarcane juice. The business is an economic development venture with a stated goal of creating jobs and providing an opportunity for rural farmers in Liberia. In 2018, Miseh Distilling began the process to expand sales globally.

We spent the day with Daniel Alarik at the new Grunt Style offices in San Antonio. We talked with Daniel about the journey that he’s been on with since he started it out of his home in Fort Benning, GA while still serving in the Army.

Sancura Biotechnologies

We went to Austin to film with Shaydi DeJesus. Shaydi hails from a family of veterans and is an Army veteran spouse. She obtained her Masters in Technology Commercialization from the McCombs School of Business. She works in investment, start-ups, and real estate. Shaydi is a co-founder of an early-stage biotech start-up called Sancura Biotechnologies.

Sancura Biotechnologies delivers a comprehensive solution to smoking cessation by targeting the physical and mental challenges of quitting.

Less than 10%. Those are the odds of a smoker successfully quitting. There are 38 million smokers in the US, roughly the population of California. Strong cravings, headaches, and dizziness are only some of the withdrawal symptoms that smokers experience while trying to quit, making it very difficult to kick the habit. In addition, 40% of smokers suffer from a mental illness, an enormous contributor to smoking addiction. Pills, patches, and chewing gum do not address all of the factors that drive a person to smoke.

Sancura Biotech offers a two-pronged treatment strategy that targets mental risk factors and nicotine withdrawal symptoms. They achieve this by coupling a digital mental health intervention with an effective, non-addictive nasal spray. This powerful combination increases the chances for successful, long-term results.

Plated

Nick Taranto is the Co-Founder of Plated, an American ingredient-and-recipe meal kit service that delivers meals in the form of weekly boxes that contain ingredients and also include recipes to be cooked by hand by the customer using the pre-ordered ingredients. Founded by Harvard Business School classmates Nick Taranto and Josh Hix in 2012, the company became well-known through its participation in Techstars in 2013, Shark Tank in 2014 and Beyond the Tank in 2015. The company accepted several rounds of venture capital investments and remained private until it was acquired by Albertsons in September 2017.

Rhumbix

Zach Scheel and Drew Dewalt are the Founders of Rhumbix, a mobile platform for construction field supervision to ensure crews have the materials, tools, equipment, and approved drawings to complete the day’s work. Its platform allows information flow upwards through mobile tools designed for the craft workforce, captures accurate data from the field in real-time, and provides project managers with data-driven insights to improve site safety and labor productivity, as well as empowers foremen and work crews by providing daily feedback on performance. The company was incorporated in 2014 and is based in San Francisco, California.

Chicago Dental Studio

Today we completed a story on Dr. Lauren Hubbard. Dr. Hubbard faced challenges opening a dental studio in the west loop area of Chicago. Dr. Lauren Hubbard was able to gain knowledge and support from the Bunker Labs community to help grow her franchise and set her location apart from other dental businesses in the area.

Overall the shoot went well despite the wild construction happening all around the building. Super big thanks to Lauren and the staff at Chicago Dental Studio for their hospitality and time.

Fanfood

Carson Goodale is the Founder of FanFood, a mobile ordering platform dedicated to enhancing the guest experience at live events. The consumer app allows fans to explore concessions, order-ahead for express pick-up, or get them delivered to their seats. The company helps stadiums go cashless and takes the pressure off concession lines, improves staff efficiency and increase sales.

FanFood has secured partnerships with properties owned and operated by the MLS, NCAA, MiLB Baseball, and Formula One. FanFood is a nationwide brand built for sports and live entertainment.
